Our Artisans

THE GREATEST RESOURCE OF URBAN COTTON

In my work for Urban Cotton, I feel respected and listened to. I am so thankful for fair working conditions and the additional income for my family!

North to South

From Luang Namtha in the north to Savannakhet in the south many of our artisans live in rural areas. Some work full-time with handicrafts, but most are farmers. Producing for Urban Cotton provides extra income for their families and makes them less vulnerable when crops fail. It also enables families to pay for school fees and hospital bills and other expenses.

Local Communities

We want our artisans to be able to combine safe work, family life and farming. Unlike big enterprises our producers do not need to move to the city, but can stay in their local communities. Community life is a crucial part of Lao culture and identity and therefore we want to enable positive development in rural areas.

Ethnic Diversity

Many of our artisans come from ethnic minorities, each group with a rich heritage of culture and traditions. Not only do they come with a long history of handcrafting, but as well with their own unique languages, cuisine, and arts. At Urban Cotton we appreciate and want to honor the diversity of all Lao people!
